Mrs. Anna E. Barclay
|
Mrs. Anne E. Barclay was born Anne Eliza Hughson, daughter of Horace Hughson and Eliza Stone. The only proof of this was in her second marriage announcement. At a young age she married Melvin Barclay. He was a widower who had an adopted child with his first wife. They had two daughters, Alice and Marietta together. They divorced in 1889 as can be seen in the Newark Union Paper from March 18, 1888. Anne married second to Levy Courtwright. She was buried with him in the East Palmyra Cemetery in 1925.
Alice Barclay was married two times. Her first marriage was probably to Jesse Pitts (although in the 1900 directory she is listed as Mrs. J. Pitkin the newspaper articles seem to contradict this), and her second marriage to George Wright. That I can identify, she had no children. Melvin and Anne's daughter Marrietta married Edwin Cary. Their oldest son, born around 1879 was named Melvin, confirming that Marrietta (Mary) is one in the same. They had three children: Melvin, Grace, and Fred. Grace's obituary can be found in the newspaper articles on this page. |
