Descendants of Henry Matthew Beach
Henry Matthew Beach was born on January 26, 1802 and died January 4, 1879. He was born in Massachusetts, some say Berkshire, but I could not confirm this. He died near Richmond, Virginia.
He lived a busy life, moving from Massachusetts sometime before 1830. Before the census of 1830 I could not locate him, but he may not have been head of household. In 1830 he can be found living in Warren, Herkimer County, New York. He has a wife living with him. We can find that he and LAURA ANN ELY (Samuel, Simeon) were married on September 24, 1829. Henry and Laura had their first child on May 10, 1835 in Warren. Fanny Althea died on February 6, 1850 and can be found in the Little Lakes Cemetery in Warren, with her Great Grandfather, Simeon Ely who died at the age of 84 on June 15, 1817. On November 11, 1836 RENDELL (RANDALL) ELY BEACH was born in Warren. In the 1839 tax rolls for Warren we find that Henry M. and an ISAAC (most likely an older brother) own 52 acres and had to pay $2.43 in taxes. My best guess would be that this was part of a will, as they paid taxes together on this property and remained neighbors for a very long time. (Looking back on records we can find an Isaac Beach living in Warren in 1825, this could be either a father, or the brother. I am unsure as age was not recorded).
In 1840 Henry and Isaac are neighbors still in Warren. We notice that Isaac is about ten years older than Henry and has two daughters: one between the ages of five and nine; and one between fifteen and nineteen. Henry has the two children listed in the above paragraph. In 1846, Henry and Isaac were sued, by William Crain, this lawsuit can be found here. Despite being sued, in 1850 Isaac and Henry are still living in Warren. Isaac is married to what is transcribed and looks like a woman named Elisha, she is older than him. They have two children: Mary Ann who is 21 and Mary who is 19. Next door to Henry, whose name was transcribed at familysearch.org as Bench (on page 25) and his family: Laura, Renall, and Mary (age 15). Mary is the correct age to be Fanny, but she is clearly written as Mary in this census.
In 1855, still in Warren, the two brothers remain neighbors. Not much has changed with them except each family had a daughter no longer listed with them. Henry and Laura's daughter, Fanny, died earlier in the year, but I am uncertain what happened to Isaac and Electa (previously recorded as Elisha)'s daughter. From a family tree, located here we can conclude that Isaac and Electa had a third daughter at one point, named Lucy Jane who died in 1846, after marrying a man named John McCreedy.
In 1860 Henry M. can be found living in Minden, Montgomery County, New York. He is still with his wife, and his son. Randall is now married to Melissa Yule (daughter of Robert and Catherine Edick Yule). Randall and Melissa were married on December 15, 1858 in Paines Hollow, Herkimer County; where she was born. Randall and Melissa had one son in the 1860 census, Charles, he was ten months old. Also living with the family was a man named Jefferson E. Versey, he was born in Ohio. Isaac is still in Warren in the 1860 census, only he is listed as a day laborer living in the Thompson home. In this census he states he was born in 1793 in New York. My thoughts on this are that the homeowner gave the names and ages to the census taker as Isaac should be listed as being born in Massachusetts, but lived in New York a long time.
Henry and family moved to Huron, Wayne County, New York before the 1870 census. Between the 1860 and 1870 census, Rendell (Randall) and Melissa Yule Beach had the following children: Willis Robert (born March 20, 1861); James Ely (born March 12, 1864); Addison A. and his twin Emmerson (born May 2, 1872); and Roscoe (born January 6, 1876 and died January 4, 1880). **Of importance to note, the death dates for both Henry M. Beach and Roscoe Beach are taken from the book, "Records of the Descendants of Nathaniel Ely: The Emigrant who settled first in Newton, Now Cambridge, Mass., was One of the First Settlers of Hartford, Also of Norwalk, Conn; and a Resident of Springfield, Mass., from 1659 Until His Death in 1675," (ebook). Since preparing to type this up I noticed that Henry M. Beach and grandson, Roscoe have the same death date, but are one year apart. My best guess would be that they died on the same day and year, perhaps in a car accident, or some sort of accident. If you have any knowledge of these people, and know for sure when they died please contact me and I can update the information on here for future researchers, thanks!
In 1880 we can find what is left of the Beach family living in Varina, Henrico County, Virginia. By this time Henry and Roscoe have both passed away. The following are listed in the same household: Randel E. Beach (age 43); Melissa (age 40); Charles H. (age 20); Willis R. (age 18); James Ely (age 16); Addison and Emmerson (age 8); Lory A. (age 70); and Lucinda Smith (age 30, born in Virginia, parents both born in Virginia).

By the 1892 census Randall, and family have moved back to Wayne County. They can be found living in Huron. Randall's first wife, Melissa Yule Beach, has passed away sometime between the census', and Randall has remarried to a woman named Jane. The household consists of the following: Lora Ann Beach (age 82); Randall E. (age 56); Leonardo (age 2); Jane (age 45); and Addison (age 20).
In the 1900 census the family is still in Huron, only Randall's mother, Lora, has disappeared, she probably is no longer living. The household consists of the following: Randal (age 63); Jane (age 51); Emaline Chase (Jane's mother, age 85); and Leonardo Beach (age 9).
In 1900 Emerson Beach and his twin, Addison were both living as boarders in Utica, Oneida County, New York. In 1903 Emerson ended his own life, his obituary is in the articles below.
In the 1900 census, Charles H. Beach (Randall's son) is living in Arcadia, Wayne County, New York. He has married a woman named Gertrude (maiden name Peck, daughter of Eron and Catherine Peck). They have two children: Leon H. (age 3), and Marion W. (age 11). Charles H. Beach can be located easily in the 1900 directory of Newark.
In the 1900 census Willis R. Beach (also Randel's son) can be found living in Lyons, Wayne County, New York. He is married to a woman named Emma H. Boyton Beach, and they have a daughter named Linnet.
In the 1900 census James E. Beach can be found living in Ontario, Wayne County, New York, he is listed as age 36. He is married to a woman named Ada B. (age 32, maiden name unknown), they have the following children: Rosco (age 14); Clayton (age 12); and Leora (age 9).

In 1905 Randal and his family can be found living in Rose, Wayne County, New York. Randal is listed as being 68 years old; his wife, Jane, is now 56; their son, Leonardo C. is now 14. In 1910 nothing has changed besides everyone has aged five years.
In 1910 Charles H. Beach has relocated to Jerusalem, Yates County, New York. His family has stayed the same as in the 1900 census.
In 1910 Willis has relocated to Palmyra, Wayne County, New York. He now has a seven year old son, named Harry.
In the 1910 census, Rosco(e), son of James E. Beach can be found living in Grand Junction, Mesa County, Colorado. He is married to a woman named Edna who is also from New York.
In 1910, Clayton, James E. Beach's other son, was living as a boarder in Ontario, Wayne County, New York. In 1917 he filled out his draft paper and states that he is married with children. He also states his date of birth as March 30, 1888. A write up of Clayton, also known as Bob, can be found below. It was written in 1946.
In 1917 Leonardo Chase Beach, Randall's son, enlisted for the war. He states that his birthdate is December 18, 1890.
In the 1920 census Charles H. Beach has removed to Wolcott, Wayne County, New York with his wife, Gertrude. There is a possibility that Marion, has moved to Gold Creek, Powell County, Montana and is working as a bridge designer, but I was not able to find proof that they are the same Marion.
In 1920 Willis is living in Palmyra still, and his family is still the same.
In 1920 Rosco(e) and his wife Edna have moved to Ogden, Weber County, Utah. They have a son, Albert R. who is listed as 8 years old.
In 1920 Clayton is still living in Ontario. He is married to a woman named Mary Green Beach. They have a daughter, Frances Bell Beach (age 6), and a son, Robert Emerson (age 5). Also living with them is Mary Green Beach's mother, Frances Green (age 71).
