Fayette Archer
Fayette Archer only lived in Wayne County for a short period of time, moving here to live with his widowed Aunt. He was married to Mamie Sherwood in Lowville, New York. This can be seen in the newspaper article below. In the 1900 directory there was also a Lydia Sherwood (possibly a sister of his wife) living in their household.
I was able to prove that this was the same person because in 1900 his Aunt's name was Mary Day. When I searched through the census' I was able to find Mary married to a Sidney Day. The last name Day comes up when searching for Fayette's family in a couple places; Jacob Archer married an Amanda Day, they passed away in Lowville, as can be seen here. On Amanda Day's find a grave page you can see that she was outlived by a couple children, including Fayette Archer. A little digging on Jacob Archer and Amanda Day presents the following facts: Amanda Day was a sister to Sydney (Sidney) Day. Their parents were Sylvester Day and Marie Babcock. We know this because when Sydney and his brothers enlisted in the Civil War they had to list their parents, this was in Champion, Jefferson County, New York although they lived in Lowville. The above wedding announcements lets us know that the Fayette Archer listed at this find a grave page is our Fayette Archer that at one time lived in Wayne County. Fayette did have a daughter named Gladys.
