John Allen
John Allen has been a very interesting person to research. He died shortly after the 1900 census. In the 1900 census he was living with his daughter, Elizabeth Ware. John consistently states that he was born in New York in 1814, but a newspaper article that was indexed by the Wayne County Historian indicates that he was 80 years old in August of 1893. In 1900 John States that his father was born in Vermont, while in 1880 he states he was born in New York. In 1880 (Newark, Wayne County, New York census) John was listed as a retired farmer. He became widowed before 1880, and Elizabeth always lived with him (in the census').
John's obituary in 1904 provides a lot of useful information. You can see all of this at the bottom of this article. In it it states that he was born in Sennet, Cayuga County, New York. John moved to Arcadia (Newark) in 1880 after living in Wales, Erie County for most of his life. He was married in Auburn (according to his obituary) in 1845 to Laura Herrington. Together they only had one daughter, Elizabeth (who married Moses H. Ware). Laura Herrington Allen died in 1875. Also, according to John's obituary, his body was taken to Alden, Erie County
I have found John and Elizabeth's hometown of Wales, Erie County, New York.
There are only a few articles for this family (newspaper) that can be found by searching at fultonhistory.com. In one article, sometime in the early 1900's it says that a friend of Mrs. Elizabeth Ware's was visiting from Moravia, Erie County, New York.
From the historian's office index I can see that John Allen died in January of 1904, his age was 90 years and 5 months.
