Orville Allerton's Family
Orville Hurd AllertonOrville Allerton was very easy to research. In 1850 he can be found in Newark, newly married to a woman named Adelaide. By 1860 the couple has had at least one child, Harry age 8, they are still living in Newark. We learn from the 1860 census that Adelaide is also known as Eliza. In 1870 the Allerton's are living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Orville seems to have a new wife, Mary. They seem to be living with what could be a brother of Orville, Byron Allerton.
Tracing Byron back a little in time, he is the son of Samuel Waters and Hannah Hurd Allerton. In 1850 they can be found living in Yates County. By 1860 Byron was living in Arcadia, Wayne County, and by 1870 he is in Pittsburgh as mentioned above. In 1880 Byron is back in Newark, New York but Orville, who now says he was born in Maine and whose wife's name is again Elizabeth, has yet to return. In 1892 Orville is back in Arcadia. His wife is still Elizabeth A. (perhaps in 1860 the census taker did not know the name of Orville's wife or where he was born). There is a child, Nellie A. listed in the 1892 census. Nellie is 16 years old. There is another female, named Olive A. Howland, aged 23, listed above Nellie. Mrs. Adelaide Allerton's obituary can be read here. There is a very long write up, including mention of a son, Clarence, that only lived to be ten months old. Orville Jr's obituary is below. There is a marriage write up for a Miss Helen Adelaide Allerton above Orville Jr.'s obituary. The marriage write up states her as the daughter of Mrs. Orville Allerton, I believe this to be Adelaide not only because of the fact that Orville was living in Newark, but also because this name is mentioned in Mrs. Adelaide Allerton's obituary.
I learned while researching other people in the directory that Orville had a sister named Louis who has a nice write up on her page that can be found here. |
