Silas Ballou
Silas Ballou can first be found in the 1860 census in Palmyra, Wayne County, New York making a living as a peddler. Next he is found in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts living with his wife, Theresa (born in New York), and two children: James and Frank. By 1880 Silas is now in Arcadia, widowed, and living in the home of Alice Cole (also widowed with a daughter age 5), and his son Frank. In 1892 Alice C. and Silas are married and living with no children in Arcadia. In the next few census' not much changes except in 1910 there are some boarders living in their household: James Pradley (born in Ireland) and Floyd Carpenter (born in New York). Theresa (maiden name not known) died in 1874 in Arcadia, her find a grave page can be seen here. Silas' obituary states that he was buried in the Willow Ave cemetery, however only his son James can be found buried here.
