The Baker Sister's
Laura C. BakerMiss Laura C. Baker was born about 1830 while her parents lived in Sodus, Wayne County, New York. In 1900 she can be found under the name Louisa Baker living in Arcadia. This was Laura's last census as she died in 1903. Her father was named George Baker, he was born in 1794 and died in 1876 (according to a United States Sons of the American Revolution Membership Application of William Carr Servose). George Baker was married to Celinda Balch who was born in 1801, married in 1820, and died in 1883 (according to the same application. In order to properly explain relationships in the census' for the family I did an in-depth search dating back to the census of 1810. In 1810 George Baker Sr. was living in Onondaga County, New York. He had four children, 1 male under 10 years old, 1 male and 1 female between the ages of 10 and 16 years old, and 1 female between the ages of 16 and 25. In 1814 George Baker Jr. enlisted in the War, his pension file gives a death date of June 20, 1875 (different from the date on the US Sons of the American Revolution Membership Application). According to the pension file, George Jr. and Celinda were married on May 21, 1820 in Marcellus, New York. In 1820 George Jr. and a wife are listed in Onondaga, Onondaga County, New York. By 1830 they have removed to Sodus, Wayne County, New York. There are two sons under five years old, and two daughter between five and nine years old. In 1840, again in Sodus, there are 8 people living in the home, 5 females and 3 males. In 1850, again in Sodus, we find George (age 56), Celinda (age 49), Frances C (age 15), Byram G. (age 24) (should be Byron G. who removed to Michigan shortly after this census), and Laura (age 20). I am unsure why the children are listed in such an order where the birth years are not in consecutive order, but can say this is normally the case when some of the children are step children or half siblings. In 1860, again in Sodus, George and Celinda are living with Laura C. Baker. In 1860 in Williamstown, Oswego County, New York we find Calista F. Carr with her husband Caleb L. and their one year old son Caleb L.. Calista F. Carr is the same person as Frances C. Baker (listed in the 1850 census with George and Celinda). In 1870, now in Williamstown, Oswego County, New York we find George, Celinda, and Laura Baker. They are living next to Frank Carr (a female....Frances C. who is now widowed, has a nine year old daughter, Clara, and has a five year old child, Clarence). In 1880 we visit Sodus again and find Frances C. Baker Carr has now remarried to Martin V. Teetor. In 1880 back in Williamstown, Celinda (now widowed) Baker and daughter Laura are living together. In 1892, in Arcadia, Wayne County, New York we find Frances C. Carr, Laura Baker, and Clarence Carr living in the same household. In 1900, again in Arcadia, we find Laura (Louisa as transcribed by ancestry) living with her sister, Frances Carr, and her nephew Clarence Carr. I am unsure that Frances C. Baker Carr was ever married to Martin Teetor. I am not sure because he is still living after 1892 but is listed as widowed (and we know that Frances C. was still alive).
